In the past 15 years, Oris and the Williams F1 team have always been mutually beneficial alliances. As the official timing partner of the world-renowned Formula 1 team, Oris will periodically launch special models to celebrate and commemorate some of the important milestones the team has achieved. A recent example of the Martini Racing Limited Edition chronograph released in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Martini team (the main sponsor of Williams). Now, another special edition has joined the ranks. It is the new Oris Williams FW41 Chronograph Limited Edition Automatic Wristwatch 01 774 7725 8794-Set RS.
If you are not a die-hard fan of F1, then you may not be able to get a memorial to this watch for a while. The FW41 is the name of the 2018 new car that Williams launched in London in February this year. At the same time, it was the first work created by Paddy Lowe, the technical director who joined the team last year, and De Beer, the aerodynamics director.
For the Williams F1 team, this is undoubtedly a very reflective behavior, they are very focused on improving the aerodynamic level of the car to achieve performance. At that time, Lowe once said: “We hope that this car can make progress in performance rankings compared to 2017.” Unfortunately, as of now, the goddess of success did not care for them, Williams is currently in points ranked tenth on the list, behind the Indian power team.
Although the new car did not achieve the desired results, the Oris Williams FW41 limited edition chronograph, which was born with this inspiration, is not the case. There are many pleasing elements in this outstanding timepiece that are directly derived from the F1 equation. For example, the manufacturing process used in the carbon fiber case and dial with a diameter of 44mm is borrowed from Williams. It can be said that it is the only one in the industry, and the result of using this process is quite amazing: the body part is only 7.2 grams.
On the black carbon fiber dial, the hour and minute are indicated by the center hand and the small seconds sub-dial is at 9 o’clock. The hands of the Chronograph dial are painted in the blue of the Williams team and the zero point is set at 8 o’clock to pay tribute to the dashboard of the historic Williams. The 30-minute counter is at 12 o’clock, while the 12-hour counter is at 6 o’clock. In addition, the latter also incorporates a calendar display window, while the right side of the dial has a fan-shaped structure that is part of the date circle.
The model is equipped with a Cal.774 self-winding movement, which is based on the Sellita SW 500. It has a vibration frequency of 4 Hz and provides a 48-hour power reserve. And the movement is hidden behind a black-plated titanium alloy screw-in bottom cover with a specially limited version of the logo on the bottom cover.
The new Oris Williams FW41 limited edition chronograph is equipped with a black rubber strap and a buckle for the steel folding clasp. The watch will only be issued in limited editions of 410 pieces to commemorate Williams’ F1. 41 sports competition season. Its price is 4,350 Swiss francs.
